Waiting on the 3:45

It's not the 3:10 to Yuma, just Friday's vehicle line up for the 3:45 to Keystone on Whidbey Island. The Port Townsend/Keystone ferry route has had disruptions of late due to recently found hull damage in the older, larger vessels normally used on this run which were pulled from service. The Washington State Ferry system has provided a temporary solution with the lease from Pierce County of the smaller 50 car ferry, Steilacoom II, until a similar vessel for the run is built and delivered next year.

I love ferry rides. No matter the duration though I prefer a good hour ride. We used to go on them to get to the Outer Banks along the NC coast.

Interestingly a ferry ride is an experience I have had only once in my life. Many years ago we crossed the English Channel on a car ferry. It is interesting to me how something so common to many people can be a totally un-experienced activity to so many of the rest of us.
