Odd Shots - Stack 'em!

Stacked, piled or strewn along roadside fields, vacant lots, parking lots, etc. - stored commercial fishing gear of all kinds (nets, doors, traps, poles, drums, gantries, outriggers) can be an odd or curious sight to visitors from inland. Many vessels change their fishing gear to work several seasons or species in the course of a year. Pictured here are stacks of stored "Dungy pots", which are crab traps used for fishing dungeness crab. Dungeness seems to be the crab of choice for most Pacific Northwesterners as it is both plentiful and has a wonderful distinctive taste. In my opinion, it's not as sweet as the Atlantic and Gulf Coast's blue crab or as rich as the Alaskan king or tanner, but has the best balanced flavor of all.

I agree with you, to a inland person, this may look odd. To an islander i see it all the time.I like the anle you have on this, and yes i can see people having to view twice to work out what they are.

Great picture you have for us Pat we used to see a lot of this when we had a decent sized fishing fleet, today
I'm offering a Big Thank You for CDP support.

I'm always fascinated by fishing detritus near the docks. I can spend all day finding good photo material there, every day. One of my favorite "go-to" places if I need something quick. Great post explaining the different fishing seasons. Nice vivid colors, too -:)
