Man's Best Friend

Was a grand morning for getting out and around and enjoying a spectacular sunrise. It appeared that not many shared my enthusiasm for an early walk until I ran into Sam and his owner at the Haller Fountain. Sam had already been for a run and swim and was ready for refreshment. Here he enjoys a cool drink at the newly installed water fountain fit for man or beast - it also features a lower doggie bowl. A couple of drinks and Sam trotted away with a happy face and wagging tail.

That reminds me of those days when I was a kid and lived in a small village where I was born.

Your photo shows a modern drinking water fountain with a separate bowl for the dog.

My memory is of a large water trough for cows or horses ridden into town or pulling wagons. There was a water pump with a tin cup hanging on the pump for people and the pump water fell into the horse trough along the curb so the animals could all drink.

all water fountains should be dog friendly. Nice photo.

Now that is cool. I do not think I have ever seen a doggy fountain.

Viewing your post today with the black lab and yesterday's post together in Google Reader, I was struck by the two tails and how much they resembled each other in context. That fountain looks like a nice addition at the base of those steep steps. We enjoyed sunshine here today as well.

Looks like the mark of a truly civilized community.

Just more proof of how well-balanced life is in Pt Townsend. Great shot ... I can almost see Sam shaking off the water from his swim!
