Sky Watch

Sky watching during our recent camping trip to Mesa Verde National Park in Colorado.

Inside a dark, but cool ceremonial room called a kiva.
This particular kiva has been reconstructed in the ruins of Spruce Tree House, one of numerous cliff dwellings, in Mesa Verde National Park . It provides visitors a glimpse of the ceremonial chambers so prevalent in the ancient Puebloan cliff dwellings around 1200-1300 A.D. in the American Southwest.

To view or join Sky Watch Friday photos visit our ever genial host, Tom at Wiggers World.

WOW! My parents had a black and white photograph of those dwellings from the 50s hanging on their living room wall for years! It's great to see it in living colour!!! Happy Skywatching - wonderful collection :)

America and ist's ever changing landscape is a photographer's dream. You really have captured taht sense of vastness, very cinematic. As for the gnome it'a a fabulous shot against the sky and makes a change form seeing them in someone's garden fishing.

Iknow that Tom will love the Gnome

Unfortunately Tom is on bed rest today and for the first time you are stuck with me. I have my orders to visit as many as I can, and make sure the links are working and everyone is being good. I am sure you are all being good.
Tom and I thank you for Sky-Watching this week. I am sure that as soon as Tom's heart beat settles down he will be back here and visiting.

Ooh I love your photos. As I was scrolling down I thought I'll have to tell them how I love the light coming through the tree. The tree is so unique it's my favorite. But then I saw the dwellings and I thought of how badly I would love to see them in person. But then I say the girl looking into the light outside, above her and the ray that is streaming through the entrance is so perfect! So I can't pick a favorite after all. I do think that they are beautiful.

Hallo from north Norway. Last week I saw all Sky Watch Friday photos and they were all great, and I hope to see them all this week too. I love to travel around the world this way.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful sky watch and have a great weekend!

I like the third photo of the banking clouds echoing the rockface. It shows earth and sky is but a continuum. I like this thought and you have put it into an image for me. The blue is so incredibly vibrant. Nice shot, Raf.

What a beautiful collection of sky photos. I have never been to Mesa Verde, but I will add it to my (very long) list of places I want to visit now, for its history below and its sky above.
And I've gotta ask - is that your own personal gnome?

I really enjoyed this series. In particular the new avatar, and what appears to be the ruins of a village in the cliffs? Beautiful shots!
