A is for Admiralty Inlet

This photo is taken from Point Hudson in downtown Port Townsend looking northeast across the waters of Admiralty Inlet toward Whidbey Island and Mt. Baker in the distance. Admiralty Inlet is the major passageway for maritime commerce into and out of Puget Sound waters.

From Wikipedia: All sea vessels must pass through Admiralty Inlet to enter or leave Puget Sound, except those small enough to use Deception Pass. This fact led to the selection of Port Townsend on the Quimper Peninsula as the official port of entry for the Puget Sound region during the early days of commerce in the area. It also led to the federal decision in the late 1890s to construct Fort Worden, Fort Casey, and Fort Flagler around Admiralty Inlet as a "Triangle of Fire" for the protection of Puget Sound from a hostile fleet.

Super shot, Raf. Great info too. I did know that about Admiralty Inlet, Whidbey Island tells you at every turn if you are down by the water. Unless of course you are on the Saratoga side. Islands, water--what do they know. LOL MB

That was a very nice composition - simple and effective. Not to mention the information.

Beautiful shot, Raf. We're just beginning to get acquainted all this region has to offer ~ including the forts/parks you mentioned.

Raf, awesome. You guys have such cool boats up there. Interesting rigging. What boat is this. Is it a replica of a old tall ship?
Your fellow boat fan, KT
