Aloft

Ahoy, all hands! Aboard a sailing vessel the term aloft refers to the overhead rigging. The rigging seen aloft here is aboard the brig, Lady Washington.

View all the interpretations today for the letter A at Mrs Nesbitt's ABC Wednesday.

Applause from me - of course. It is nice to see that such ships are taken well care of. There are few subjects more suited for photography than sailing vessels - and I bet you could do the whole ABC with nautical expressions!

Your photo made me aware of the amount of rope used on these sailing ships.

This sort of reminds me of the boats I saw at Antayla Harbor in Turkey and on my Pick a Peck of Pixels Blog.

Lots of work on these boats. You got to have upper body strength to deal with those ropes and sails. Unless it is all done by motors -- these days.

Interesting photo with all the wire and strings on that boat. Wouldn't you hate to untangle that mess? LOL.

Oof, what a mess of ropes! I'm amazed the sailors can make sense of this. Another reason for admiring them!

Ah, she's such a beautiful ship! Those are the sights that make it such fun to go to Port Townsend! Marvelous capture, Raf! Hope your week is going well!

Ahoy, there! Aye, and a right piratey post you have here today, me heartie! And the Lady Washington! Excellent choice.

Did you know she was used in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies? A fine boat - ship! - to be sure!

«Louis» is always in awe of these sailing ships.

We romanticize them now - but sailing on them must have been a hard life.
