Theme Day - Paths and Passages

Rome may have its celebrated Spanish Steps, but Port Townsend too has its very own Terrace Steps. This passageway of steps on Taylor Street extends from uptown Jefferson Street to downtown Washington Street. These steps may not be so much celebrated as simply convenient for pedestrians that wish to walk the shortest path from the downtown central business district to the uptown residential section.
Seen here at the bottom of the stairway is the Haller Fountain that I posted about yesterday. In pleasant weather this little park and its fountain area is a very popular place for locals and tourists alike to gather, relax and play. For the next few days I plan to post more images of the Haller Fountain and steps.

A great choice for today and different. How on earth does that woman get the pram down the steps. Incredible!

The lady in the picture looks like she has both hands full. Nice photo and especially enhanced by the water from the fountain.

I wrote in my Memories blog about the roads of my youth and how they were to travel in the winter time.

It may be the shortest, but it sure doesn't look easy when you have a baby carriage and a child! Happy Theme Day!

That is quite the stroller that woman has. seems like a chore to me.
Interesting photo and good info. Perfect for the theme. Waiting for more about Haller Park. MB

Excellent depiction of the length of those steps - the family adds real scale.

I can't imagine her going back up this way with her stroller! This is a great combination of elements.

Looks like they'd make for one heck of a bumpy ride. Not something I'd want to subject my child to after a full meal.

I'd take the grass. I wouldn't like to drag my shopping up there but I would like to sit by the fountain.

While taking the pictures yesterday morning, I was mostly focused on getting different angles of the steps and fountain together, but I do remember being impressed with how the lady was so skillful at slowly easing the stroller down the steps.

I am proud that those steps are there for those who want/need to use them. I'm even more proud that I'm not needing such a large number of steps in my daily life. Whew!
